Większość z liczących się na rynku ubezpieczycieli przyjmuje podobne zasady, czasem różniące się w szczegółach. Przykładowo: Warta w podanej powyżej sytuacji zastosuje maksymalne zniżki. Jeżeli jednak jeden z kierowców ma zwyżki, wówczas sytuacja się zmieni.
Ewa Krawczyk z biura PR Warty wyjaśnia, że przy ustaleniu wysokości należnej składki zarówno w OC, jak i AC przyjmuje się uprawnienia właściciela, który posiada największe zniżki lub zwyżki z tytułu bezszkodowego lub szkodowego przebiegu ubezpieczenia. Chyba że jeden ze współwłaścicieli objęty jest zwyżką i jednocześnie inny posiada uprawnienia do zniżki, wtedy stosuje się klasę bonus-malus przewidzianą dla właściciela objętego zwyżką.
Zatem jeśli kierowca ze zniżkami zgodzi się na taki układ, powinien jednak najpierw rozważyć opłacalność takiego rozwiązania. Sława Cwalińska-Weychert, wiceprezes Link4 mówi, że należy jednak pamiętać, że w przypadku szkody z tej polisy utrata zniżki będzie dotyczyła obydwu właścicieli, niezależnie od tego, kto byłby sprawcą szkody.
Jedynie osoby, które nie mają zniżek ( mieli wypadki lub mają prawo jazdy od kilku lat, ale nie prowadziły auta ) mogą w pełni wykorzystać taki sposób na zmniejszenie składek. Kierowcy z małym stażem za kierownicą i młodzi kierowcy co prawda dostaną zniżki za bezszkodowość, ale towarzystwa naliczą też wyższe składki za młodość i brak doświadczenia. Joanna Kitowska, rzecznik Ergo Hestia mówi, że jeżeli jeden ze współwłaścicieli posiada prawo jazdy krócej niż trzy lata, składka wzrośnie o 20 proc.
Takie podejście jest już niemal standardem rynku ubezpieczeniowego. Osoby posiadające prawo jazdy krócej niż 2-3 lata, muszą się liczyć z 10-50-proc. zwyżką. Podobnie rzecz się ma z młodymi kierowcami, czyli tymi, którzy nie przekroczyli 30 roku życia. Tu zwyżki mogą sięgać nawet 100 proc. składki podstawowej. Dodatkowo towarzystwa wprowadzają różne przedziały wiekowe, np. kierowcom do 24 lat naliczając 100 proc. zwyżek, a tym w przedziale 25-29 lat – 50 proc.
